SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Concord University men's basketball team was unable to rally from an early deficit as it fell, 90-73, to Notre Dame in a Mountain East Conference game Wednesday night at Murphy Gymnasium.
Down seven points, 15-8, after a layup from junior guard/forward
Malik Johnson at the 14:47 of the first half, Concord (5-13, 3-10 MEC) watched the Falcons (7-12, 5-8 MEC) go on a 15-2 run over the next four minutes to open up a 30-9 lead.
NDC was able to hit nine three-pointers in the first half and carry the early run into halftime as it led 53-33 at halftime.
After Notre Dame ran its lead up to as much as 23 points in the opening minutes of the second half, Concord cut the deficit to 16 points twice with the final occurrence coming at the 10:24 mark after a layup from senior guard
Trey Brisco. The Mountain Lions did get the NDC lead back to 16 with under five minutes left, but could not get any closer in the defeat.
Brisco finished with a career-best 31 points on 8-for-14 shooting from the field and a 12-of-14 showing from the foul line. Johnson was the only other CU player in double figures as he posted 11 points. Junior forward
David Bea Mulumba had eight points off the bench.
The Mountain Lions return to the Carter Center to play Urbana 4:00 p.m. Saturday.
