Concord Wins Fourth Straight Game at Davis & Elkins, 19-5

ELKINS, W.Va. – The Concord University baseball team won its fourth straight game with a 19-5 road victory at Davis & Elkins Wednesday afternoon.

After neither team scored in the first three innings, Concord (16-7) scored in all of the next four innings to separate itself from the Senators (2-24). The first two runs came in on a two-out double from junior infielder Nathan Neff.

Sophomore infielder Anthony Stehlin accounted for three RBI in the fifth inning as his bases-clearing double brought in freshman catcher Chance Davis, junior outfielder Adam Linkous and senior infielder Brett Simmons. Simmons was responsible for the run scored in the sixth as he knocked in senior catcher Jordan Clark on a two-out hit to right field.

Up 6-0 going to the top of the seventh, Concord exploded for 13 runs over the remainder of the game. In a seven-run seventh, junior outfielder Ryan Fralin recorded two RBI while junior catcher Jakob Divers added two RBI in different plate appearances.

The final scoring for CU came in the ninth as freshman infielder Ryan Meister ripped a two-RBI double to left center field before Clark came up later in the inning and sent a three-run home run over the fence for his third homer of the season.

Before the Mountain Lions started racking up runs offensively, junior pitcher Bryson Booher stymied Davis & Elkins as he tossed six scoreless innings to move to 2-0 on the season. Booher surrendered just two hits and struck out five.

D&E scored all five of its runs in the bottom of the ninth.

The 7-9 hitters of Clark, Fralin and Davis combined to go 10-for-16 with six RBI and six runs scored. Stehlin had a team-best five RBI. The 19 runs were a season high as were the 20 hits Concord pounded out.

The Mountain Lions resume Mountain East Conference play 1:00 p.m. Saturday against West Virginia State at Anderson Field.
