GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Concord University softball team picked up two road wins at Glenville State Saturday afternoon in Mountain East Conference play at the Sue Morris Complex.
Concord improves to 32-17 overall and 20-10 in the conference while GSC falls to 13-35 and 6-24 versus MEC foes.
Game 1: Concord 8 – Glenville State 0 (Six Innings)
Freshman pitcher/outfielder
Laura Thompson fired a two-hit shutout and got plenty of run support as CU rolled to a game one victory.
After being held scoreless in the first two innings, the Mountain Lions scored six times in their next two at-bats. The first four runs came in the way of fielder's choices as senior utility
Kylie Kent drove in two runs in the third inning to get Concord staked out to a 2-0 lead.
Two more runs crossed on a fielder's choice off the bat off Thompson as sophomore outfielder

Taylor Dickerson scored on the play. Later during the four-run fourth frame, Kent's single plated Thompson while junior utility

Senior outfielder
Abby Beatty recorded the final two runs with a two-run double to left field in the top of the sixth.
Two runners reached against Thompson in the sixth but a swinging strikeout ended the game early. Saturday was Thompson's first career complete-game shutout as she struck out five to improve to 7-5 on the season.
Beatty had two hits and two RBI and sits one RBI away from 100 for her career. Kent drove in three runs. Thompson helped herself out with two RBI.
Game 2: Concord 12 – Glenville State 2 (Five Innings)
The Concord bats helped the Mountain Lions to a sweep as they took care of GSC in five innings.
CU plated 10 runs in the first three innings including five runs being tallied in the second inning.
Kent came through with the early offense as she shot a two-run double into center field in the first inning to put Concord up 2-0. To start the second-inning scoring, Witt came through with a bases-clearing double to push Concord ahead 5-0. The final two runs of the rally came from Bloomingdale who doubled home Witt, and Kent raced in on a sacrifice fly from junior pitcher/outfielder

Freshman utility
Sarah Thompson recorded her first two RBI of the afternoon as her double plated two of the three runs in the third inning.
The Pioneers cut into the CU lead in the fourth as they scored twice, but the Mountain Lions quickly responded with two runs in the fifth.
Sophomore pitcher/outfielder
Cartney Schoolcraft struck out the side in the bottom of the fifth to preserve the win for Fitzpatrick who improved to 6-5 in 2019. Fitzpatrick scattered five hits and two runs in four innings.
Kent, S. Thompson and Witt combined for nine RBI in game two. Witt went 3-for-3 with two double and three RBI. Kent drove in four runs. Despite not getting a hit, Fitzpatrick supported herself with two RBI.
Concord visits West Virginia Wesleyan to close the regular season 2:00 p.m. Sunday.
