Box Score WISE, Va. – The Concord University men's basketball team held UVa.-Wise scoreless for over seven minutes of the first half as it held on for a 83-72 victory at the Prior Center Saturday afternoon Mountain East Conference action.
After a UVa.-Wise (9-19, 6-16 MEC) bucket cut Concord's lead to 22-15 at the 11:13 mark of the first half, the Mountain Lions (19-9, 14-8 MEC) locked down the Cavaliers for the next 7:16 and held them without a point while building their lead to 31-15 at the 3:57 mark of the opening 20 minutes.
During the first half, CU held UVa.-Wise to 34.3 percent shooting (11-for-32) while sporting a field goal percentage of 50 percent (15-for-30).
Up 44-29 at halftime, Concord built its lead up to as much as 23 points, 60-37, after outscoring the Cavaliers 16-8 in the first six minutes of the second half.
However, UVa.-Wise started clawing back into the game as it cut CU's lead below 10 at the 7:18 and kept it there for the remainder of the game with the exception of going up 71-60 briefly and the final margin of victory.
With Concord up 11, UVa.-Wise went on an 11-4 to cut the lead to 75-72. But with 1:36 remaining, senior guard
Tommy Bolte made one of his two three-pointers on the day to push the lead up to six. The Mountain Lions were able to hold the Cavaliers scoreless for the remainder of the contest on its way to the 11-point win.
Bolte netted 30 points in the game on 10-for-20 shooting.

Simun Kovac recorded his third straight double-double as he went for 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Trey Brisco scored all 10 of his points in the first half and pulled down seven rebounds.
For the game, CU limited UVa.-Wise to 38.1 percent (24-for-63).
Concord is slated to play Charleston 8:15 p.m. Friday in the quarterfinal round of the MEC Tournament in what will be the 4/5 matchup at WesBanco in Wheeling, West Virginia.
