Concord Loses to West Liberty

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team concluded its season with a three-set loss (25-15, 25-17, 25-12) to West Liberty Saturday morning in Mountain East Conference action at the Carter Center.

Concord finishes the season with a 10-21 record and 4-12 against MEC teams. West Liberty secures a spot in the MEC Tournament as it went 17-14 overall and 9-7 versus league foes.

The Mountain Lions started fast as sophomore outside hitter Camryn Huber and senior setter Jenna Mounts each had kills to help CU open up a 3-0 lead. WLU came back to take an 11-5 edge in the first game and stretched its lead to as much as 10 points, 19-9, before winning by the same margin.

Up 11-10 in the second game after a kill from junior right side Kenzie Coulter, Concord watched West Liberty score the next five points as it grabbed a lead it would not relinquish.

The third game was similar. After the Hilltoppers opened up an 8-5 advantage, CU got within 9-8 on a service ace by Mounts, but West Liberty outscored Concord 16-4 over the remainder of the game as it went on to win in straight sets.

Coulter and Huber each had five kills to pace the Mountain Lions. Senior defensive specialist Erin Shannon had 10 digs. Mounts went for nine assists and seven digs.

Saturday was the final match in the careers of senior right side Lauren Bethel, Mounts and Shannon. Mounts finishes her career with 1,870 assists, fifth in program history. Meanwhile, Shannon's 1,778 digs are second all-time at Concord.
