Concord Plays Wheeling in Beckley, Travels to Urbana

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team plays host to Wheeling in Beckley, West Virginia 3:30 p.m. Wednesday before a road game against Urbana 3:30 p.m. Saturday in a pair of Mountain East Conference games.

RECORDS
Concord is 2-9-2 this season and 1-9-2 against MEC foes.

Wheeling is 2-11 and 1-10 in conference play.

Urbana sports a mark of 7-4-3 and is 7-3-2 in the MEC.

AN INCH AWAY
The Mountain Lions have been so close to picking up a victory in the last few games. Four of the last five losses for CU have come by one goal, all 2-1 defeats. In the setbacks, Concord has had three different scores with senior midfielder Maxime Ramioulle scoring twice. Junior defender Bruno Baptista tallied a goal against West Virginia Wesleyan while sophomore forward Daniel Culverwell posted his second goal of the season on Sunday against West Liberty.

PLETHORA OF CHANCES
In the 2-1 loss to West Liberty, CU had several chances to rally from a one-goal halftime deficit. Concord recorded 20 shots in the contest including 13 in the second half. The 20 shots were the most for the Mountain Lions this season and their highest output since notching 25 last season in a 2-1 win over Shepherd on October 4. The 20 shots were spread out as seven different players had two or more shots including three each from sophomore midfielder Barom Balliu and Culverwell.

THRILLERS
The last five games between Concord and Wheeling have provided plenty of excitement. Earlier this season, CU was unable to hold onto a 1-0 halftime lead as the Cardinals rallied for a 2-1 win. In the first meeting of 2018, Concord nearly rallied from a 3-0 deficit, but fell 5-3 at WU. The second game of 2018 featured just one goal in a 1-0 Wheeling win. In 2017, the Mountain Lions went 0-1-1 against WU—the loss by a goal. Ramioulle has three of his 17 career goals against Wheeling in five games. Senior midfielder Courtney Skerritt also has a goal versus WU.

WE'VE GOT THE GOALS
Earlier this season in Beckley, the Maroon and Gray rallied from a 2-0 deficit to earn a tie against Urbana, 3-3. Culver, Ramioulle and Skerritt all scored against Urbana while freshman forward Matt Shelor assisted on all three goals. On Sunday, Matt's twin brother, freshman midfielder Michael Shelor, assisted on Culverwell's goal for his first career assist. In the tie with UU, the game featured 41 total shots including 15 from Concord—its previous season high before Sunday.

WHEELING AT A GLANCE
The Cardinals lone conference win this season is the victory over Concord. Lucas Fievet scored both goals for Wheeling in its come-from-behind win over CU. Goalkeeper Josh Zimmerman is averaging 3.5 saves per game. In terms of shots, Concord and Wheeling tied with 11 each in the first meeting. Wheeling held a 7-6 edge in shots on goal.

URBANA AT A GLANCE
Luke Nicholls had three points against Concord in the first meeting with a goal and an assist. Since the first game against CU this season, Urbana has reeled off four wins in its last five games with the lone loss coming against nationally-ranked Charleston. Jasminko Dizdarevic leads the Blue Knights with 18 points (seven goals, four assists).
