ATHENS, W.Va. – On Homecoming, the Concord University football team lost, 56-27, to Fairmont State Saturday afternoon in Mountain East Conference action at Callaghan Stadium.
Fairmont State (2-5, 2-5 MEC) started fast as they scored four touchdowns in the first 16 minutes of the game, and was up 35-7 at halftime. The lone CU (0-7, 0-6 MEC) score came in the final three minutes of the second quarter as junior wide receiver

Down 56-7 to start the fourth quarter, the Mountain Lions struck for three scores in the final period as two touchdowns went to senior wide receiver
Brandon Plyler. The Fort Mill, South Carolina native caught scores of 37 and 34 yards on his way to a career day. On the game's final play, freshman wide receiver
Caeleb Bass grabbed a six-yard touchdown pass.
All three fourth-quarter touchdowns were thrown by redshirt freshman quarterback
Matt Shearer who finished the contest 17-for-22 for 237 yards and the three touchdowns. All but six of Shearer's yards came in the second half.
Plyler set single-game career highs in receptions (10) and yards (165) while tallying his sixth career multi-touchdown game. He also moved into the top 10 in career receiving yards, and now has 1,769 for his career.
Not only did Pearce catch four passes for 73 yards, the North Kissimmee, Florida native set the program record for career kickoff return yards as he has 1,390 for his career. On Saturday, Pearce had four returns for 85 yards.
Defensively, junior linebacker
Dwain Porterfield had 15 tackles. Sophomore linebacker
Tylen Fowler added 11 stops while also recovering a fumble. Junior defensive lineman
Tyler Jones both caused and recovered a fumble—on different plays—while adding four tackles.
CU travels to Urbana October 26 for a 1:00 p.m. start.
