Box Score 2 CLARION, Pa. – The Concord University volleyball team dropped two matches against Ursuline and Gannon on Friday at the Tony Banner Memorial Tournament.
The Mountain Lions (1-8) were swept in both matches.
Match 1: Ursuline 3 – Concord 0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-23)
The Mountain Lions were in an early hole after Ursuline took seven of the first nine points in the match, but Concord came back to tie the first game at 9-9. Senior outside hitter
Ellie Lawrence had two kills in the spurt while sophomore right side and freshman right side
Camryn Huber each had a kill. After CU tied the set, UC ran off five straight points to create separation and win the first set.
In the second game, Ursuline jumped out once again, but this time the Maroon and Gray could only get within two points on a couple of different occasions in the set. CU closed the deficit to 16-14 after a kill from freshman outside hitter
Peyton Wiseman, but UC scored the next three points as it went onto to win the set.
The third set featured 10 different ties. With the game tied at 14-14, it appeared CU may seize momentum after an error and a service ace from senior libero
Erin Shannon, but Ursuline came back with four straight points. CU was only able to tie the set at 18-18 as the Mountain Lions were edged by two points.
Lawrence had a team-high 11 kills. Freshman setter
Imani Rodgers finished with 14 assists. Senior outside hitter
Alexi Pranckus had 13 digs while sophomore libero
Lindsay Maddox added 10.
Match 2: Gannon 3 – Concord 0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-12)
After falling behind 5-0 in the first set, CU went on a 8-4 run to close within 9-8 after a kill from senior middle hitter
Brooke Heck. Gannon kept it advantage, but freshman middle hitter
Sheridan Herron notched a kill to make the score 11-10 in favor of GU before the Golden Knights pulled away.
Gannon opened the second set on a 14-6 run as it took a 2-0 set lead in the contest. And in the third set an 11-4 spurt to open up the game was the margin GU needed to win the match.
Heck and Pranckus each had four kills for Concord.
CU wraps up the Tony Banner Memorial Tournament with an 11:00 a.m. match Saturday against Ohio Dominican.
