ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University baseball team went 1-1 against Charleston as it dropped the first game 18-4 before taking game two 14-6 in Mountain East Conference action at Anderson Field Saturday.
The Mountain Lions are 22-18 this season and 15-11 in conference games. UC moves to 27-17 overall and 19-7 in the MEC.
Game 1: Charleston 18 – Concord 4
The Golden Eagles scored multiple runs in five of the seven innings as it eased to a game one win.
Charleston plated nine runs in the first three innings to grab a 9-0 lead and was up 14-0 before CU scored three times in the fifth inning.

Trevor Wiersma all had two hits in the game for Concord. Webb was on base a total of four times as he added two walks in the contest.

Troy Beckner (6-4) allowed seven earned runs in 2.1 innings in the loss.
Game 2: Concord 14 – Charleston 6
The Mountain Lions plated eight runs in the first inning, and never looked back in a six-run game two victory.

Paul Williams all had RBI singles in the inning before Frazier sent his fifth home run of the season over the left-center field fence to score three runs and complete the eight-run frame.
With two runs in the first and four more scores in the third, UC battled to within 8-6 of Concord. However, Divers answered with his second home run in three games—a two-run shot—to stretch CU's lead back to 10-6 in the bottom of the frame.
The four-run advantage remained until the fifth. Webb led off the bottom half with a single, got to second on a stolen base, moved to third on a base hit from junior infielder
Brett Simmons and scored on a wild pitch to give CU an 11-6 lead.
The Mountain Lions rallied for three more runs in the sixth. After sophomore outfielder

Nathan Neff both reached to start the inning, senior pitcher
Reece Edwards recorded his first career hit—a two-run double--to score both runs. Edwards and starting pitcher sophomore
Trent Abernathy were forced to hit for themselves after CU's designated hitter was cancelled out earlier in the game. Three batters later, Edwards came in to score on a fielder's choice.
Edwards pitched a 1-2-3 seventh inning to secure the win for Concord.
The Woodlawn, Virginia native picked up his first win of the season as he pitched four hitless innings of relief. Edwards struck out four and walked two in relief of Abernathy.
Divers and Frazier each homered and had three RBI in the game. Webb was 3-for-4 with two runs scored while Linkous was 2-for-4 with two more runs scored.
CU and Charleston resume their series 1:00 p.m. Sunday.
