SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – The Concord University men's tennis team downed Shepherd, 5-4, Saturday afternoon in Mountain East Conference play.

The Mountain Lions are 3-9 overall and 3-4 in the league after the victory. Additionally, Concord clinched a spot in the upcoming MEC Tournament.Â

CU won four singles matches—two through five—and also snagged a win in the number three doubles to secure the contest.Â

Adam Katona cruised to a win in number two singles as he defeated Evan Dokken 6-1, 6-1. In number three singles, junior
Alfonso Jimenez claimed a shortened win over Lewis Charette who retired due to injury.Â

Luis Soares dropped just two games on his way to a 6-0, 6-2 win in number four singles. Junior
Javier Lietor outlasted Austin Thomas in number five singles after dropping the first set. Lietor bounced back to win the third set 6-2 then took the decisive third set in a tiebreak, 7-6 (7-5).Â

Adam Tolliver combined to win 8-4 over Shepherd's Clayton Smith and Kaleb Lochner in number three doubles.Â
