ATHENS, W.Va. -Â The Concord University men's basketball team fended out Notre Dame, 95-86, Thursday night at the Carter Center in Mountain East Conference play.
CU (13-12, 9-10 MEC) started fast as it built an 11-point lead, 23-12, less than eight minutes into the game after junior guard
Tommy Bolte drilled one of his four three-pointers in the contest.
Over the next five minutes, Notre Dame (5-10, 3-16 MEC) went on a 19-7 run to grab a 31-30 lead with 7:15 remaining in the first half. Neither team could gain a lead of more than two points in the final seven minutes of the first half as the contest featured 10 lead changes. Freshman guard
Darian Peterson changed the lead for the 13
th and final time in the game as he connected on a three-pointer with 23 seconds left in the first half.
The Mountain Lions took a 43-42 lead into halftime
Despite never trailing again in the game, Concord held off NDC until they tied the game at 65-65 with 8:11 left in the contest. However, CU scored 12 of the next 16 points.
Sophomore forward
Trey Brisco paced the run with five of his 11 points during the spurt. The Maroon and Gray kept its lead above five for the remainder of the game, and connected on all 10 foul shots in the final 1:16 of the contest.
Bolte poured in 36 points on 11-fcr-22 shooting while also going 10-for-11 at the charity stripe.
As a team, the Mountain Lions were 18-for-19 at the foul line for the contest.
Senior guard
B.J. Hamlet added 17 points as he matched Bolte with four made three-pointers. Brisco and Peterson each had 11 points with Brisco pulled down seven rebounds.
Freshman forward
Jyles Webster scored seven points and eight rebounds.
CU had 17 offensive rebounds and turned it into 18 second-chance points.
The Mountain Lions conclude their homestand with a 4:00 p.m. start Saturday against Urbana.
