FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The Concord University women's basketball team was unable to hold off a second-half surge from Lock Haven as it lost 73-66 Friday afternoon at Joe Retton Arena in the MEC-PSAC Challenge.
The Mountain Lions begin the season 0-1 while LHU is 1-0.
CU got behind the Bald Eagles 19-15 after one quarter, but outscored Lock Haven 26-15 to carry a 41-34 lead into halftime. Facing its largest deficit of the game of nine, 24-15, Concord rattled off a 14-4 run that span 4:27 of the second period. All 14 points of the run were scored by either sophomore forward
Riley Fitzwater or junior forward
Madison May. Fitzwater scored four while May netted 10 points to lead the charge.
Concord built its lead up to as much as 14 points, 53-39, after a May layup with 4:46 left in the third period. However, Lock Haven finished the quarter on a 19-5 run to tie the contest up at 58-58.
LHU led early in the fourth quarter by a bucket, 62-60, but five quick points gave the Mountain Lions the lead right back. With Concord up 65-62 and 5:04 remaining in the contest, the Bald Eagles hit a three-pointer to deadlock the game once again. Concord would only lead once more, 66-65, after a free throw from Fitzwater.
Lock Haven scored the final eight points of the game and held CU scoreless over the final 4:39.
May finished with a game-high 24 points including two three-pointers in contest. Fitzwater went for 14 points and 21 rebounds, the third time in her career she's had at least 20 rebounds in a game.

Keely Lundy poured in a career-best 10 points while senior guard
Andreanna Pool added nine points, five rebounds and five assists.
The Mountain Lions play Seton Hill 2:00 p.m. Saturday to wrap up the MEC-PSAC Challenge.
