Concord Falls to Charleston

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University women's basketball team dropped an 82-57 decision to Charleston at the Carter Center in a Mountain East Conference game Wednesday night.

After trailing by five, 21-16, after the first quarter, the Mountain Lions (4-2, 2-1 MEC) took a brief 30-28 lead at the 1:55 mark of the second quarter on a layup by sophomore forward Riley Fitzwater before facing a 34-32 deficit at halftime.

Back-to-back three-pointers from sophomore guard Keely Lundy and junior forward Madison May gave Concord a 38-36 lead with eight minutes remaining in the third. Another Lundy triple with 5:28 remaining in the quarter tied the game at 41-41. However, Charleston (6-1, 3-0 MEC) finished the quarter on an 11-3 run to lead 52-44 after three periods.

The Golden Eagles worked their work their advantage up to double digits on the first possession of the fourth quarter and never looked back.

May scored 11 of her 13 points in the second half to lead CU in scoring. Fitzwater notched a double-double of 12 points and 13 rebounds. Lundy and senior guard Andreanna Pool each had 11 points with Lundy recording a career best.

Concord travels to West Virginia State for a 2:00 p.m tip off Saturday.
