Concord Falters Against Notre Dame

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University men's basketball team was unable to hold onto a 44-37 halftime lead as it fell 80-69 to Notre Dame Saturday afternoon in a Mountain East Conference game.

Notre Dame (3-1, 1-0 MEC) jumped out to a 12-7 lead on Concord with 16:35 left in the first half. However, the Mountain Lions (2-2, 0-1 MEC) responded by knocking in six consecutive three-pointers to take a 25-20 edge with 10:59 remaining until halftime. Junior guard Jair Rodgers nailed three of the triples while senior guard Tommy Bolte connected on two three-pointers, and freshman guard Brandon Kennedy also hit a shot from beyond the arc.

NDC was able to take a brief 31-30 lead with 6:57 left in the half before Concord closed the half on a 14-6 run. Junior forward Trey Brisco and Rodgers combined for all 14 points as Rodgers hit three more three-pointers.

The first points of the second half came from Brisco as he hit his second three-pointers of the game. But, Notre Dame went on a 20-8 run to take a 57-55 lead with 10:55 left in the game.

Over the remainder of the game, the Mountain Lions were unable to regain the lead or tie the Falcons.

Rodgers paced Concord with 23 points as he shot 6-for-9 from three-point range. Bolte added 20 points and six assists in the set back.

Brisco flirted with a triple-double as he posted 11 points, eight rebounds and five assists. All of Brisco's assists came on made three-pointers by CU.

Junior forward SImun Kovac had a game-best 11 rebounds as well as six points.

Concord hosts Urbana 3:00 p.m. Monday.
