Concord Loses at Notre Dame

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Concord University volleyball team was downed in a Mountain East Conference match on the road against Notre Dame Friday night at Murphy Gymnasium.

Notre Dame (8-10, 2-3 MEC) took the match 25-20, 25-19, 26-24 as Concord (4-17, 1-5 MEC) was unable to force a fourth set after a tight third set.

The Falcons controlled the first set as CU only had one lead in the set at 2-1. The Mountain Lions trimmed the lead to 12-9 after a kill from senior outside hitter Alexi Pranckus, but was only able to get back to within three, 18-15 and 21-18, twice more in the game.

Concord was forced to rally in the second game after falling behind 15-5. Back-to-back kills from sophomore right side Kenzie Coulter and Pranckus capped a 17-7 run to get Concord back to within 22-17 of the Falcons, however, the spurt stalled out as CU lost by six points.

The Mountain Lions were unable to hold a late third-set lead as NDC stormed back to win the third set and the match. Down 15-11 in the game, Concord ripped off a 9-2 run to take a 20-17 lead. Four different CU players had a kill during the rally. Still up 23-19 after a Pranckus kill, the Maroon and Gray watched Notre Dame finish the match on a 7-2 run.

Senior outside hitter Ellie Lawrence had 10 kills to lead the Mountain Lions. Coulter and Pranckus added seven kills apiece. Pranckus racked up six digs and four blocks to along with her seven kills.

Senior libero Erin Shannon tallied 15 digs with freshman setter Imani Rodgers going for 15 assists.
