FAIRMONT, W.Va. – After a tightly contested first half, the Concord University women's basketball team was unable to overcome a second-half surge from Fairmont State as it fell 77-63 Saturday afternoon in Mountain East Conference play at Joe Retton Arena.
The Mountain Lions (4-7, 2-6 MEC) and FSU (7-6, 3-5 MEC) traded the lead four times and were tied on three occasions in the first half as neither team led by more than five points in the first 18 minutes of the game.

Madison May with 8:12 remaining in the second quarter gave Concord a 21-19 edge, but Fairmont State rattled off 13 of the next 17 points in the game to take a 32-25 lead with 2:21 left in the first half. May tallied the next four points for CU, but the Fighting Falcons carried a 39-31 advantage into halftime.
Junior guard
Andreanna Pool connected on a three-pointer 49 seconds into the third quarter that cut the deficit to 42-36. However, the next nine points in the contest belonged to Fairmont State as Fairmont State built its lead to 15 points with 6:38 remaining in the third quarter.
The Mountain Lions were unable to trim the deficit back into single digits over the final 16 minutes of the game as FSU won by 14 points.
Concord received strong post play from freshman forward
Riley Fitzwater who notched her seventh double-double of the season. Fitzwater scored 19 points and pulled down 17 rebounds.
May poured in 15 points and recorded seven rebounds. Junior guard
Emily Boothe also snatched seven rebounds in the game while senior forward
Heather Chapman added eight points.
CU hosts Wheeling Jesuit 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Carter Center.
