ATHENS, W.Va- The Concord University softball team went 2-0 versus the visiting Notre Dame College Falcons in two games at the CU Softball Complex Thursday afternoon.Â
Concord improves to 26-22 (15-9 MEC), while Notre Dame falls to 19-24 (9-15 MEC).Â

Game 1: Concord 3 – Notre Dame 0 Â
Concord's three runs in the first three innings help support senior pitcher
Allie Reid's second conference shutout of the season in the circle.Â
Concord picked up a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning after senior pitcher
Allie Reid reached on an error by the Falcons.Â
Senior outfielder
Lauren Lewis then tripled home Reid from first base to give CU a 1-0 lead after two innings.Â
CU extended its lead to 3-0 in the third inning after consecutive two-out singles from sophomore pitcher/outfielder
Abby Beatty and sophomore outfielder
Lindsey Stahl put runners on first and second.Â
Reid then stepped up in the batter's box and smashed a double to right center field to score Stahl and Beatty and give the Mountain Lions a three-run advantage.Â
The three-run cushion was all the Mountain Lions needed in order to stave off the Falcons, as Reid tossed a complete-game, six-hit shutout, allowing just one hit through the final three innings.Â
The win was Reid's 11
th of the season and the 40
th of her career as a Mountain Lion.Â
Reid threw a complete game, scattering six hits while striking out three batters. Â
Lewis finished with two hits on the day, going 2-for-3 from the plate.Â
The Mountain Lions picked up nine total hits as a team, with seven additional players each garnering a hit.Â
Reid's double helped the Lovettsville, Virginia native collect her second multi-RBI game of the season.Â

Game 2: Concord 3 – Notre Dame 2
Concord overcomes early one-run deficit to clinch sweep of Falcons.
NDC grabbed an early 1-0 lead after Maria Vanadia singled down the left field line to score Emily Kusmits.Â
The Mountain Lions responded in the bottom of the frame after senior shortstop
Alayna Furr singled before stealing second base. Sophomore infielder
Kylie Kent then
singled to left center before advancing on the throw to move Furr to third base.Â
A deep shot from Lewis brought Furr comfortably home on a sacrifice fly to center field to tally Concord's lone run in the inning.Â
The Mountain Lions seized the lead from the Falcons after Reid was hit by a pitch to lead off the second inning. Stahl then singled to left field, before a series of mistakes by the
Falcons allowed junior third basemanÂ
Alycea Watson, pinch running for Reid, to score all the way from first base.Â
Stahl eventually landed at third on the play.Â
Stahl touched home plate shortly afterwards on a passed ball by the Falcons.
Notre Dame attempted to even the game in the fourth inning after Amy Hoover scored on a wild pitch. However, freshman pitcher/outfielder
Darby Fitzpatrick induced a groundout to Watson at third to garner the final out of the inning.Â
Fitzpatrick allowed just two hits through the final three innings to earn her sixth career win at Concord. The Pocomoke City, Maryland native pitched her fourth complete game, scattering seven hits while striking out four batters. Â Â
Furr finished with two hits for Concord with a run scored. Also notching hits for the Mountain Lions were Kent, Beatty, Stahl and Fitzpatrick.Â
Concord is scheduled to play Urbana tomorrow at 11 a.m.
