CLERMONT, FLA.- The Concord University softball team went 1-1 on the second day of the Florida PFX Tournament after defeating Post 4-2 before falling to Seton Hill 4-1.
Concord's record is now 9-11 on the season, while Post drops to 1-1. Seton Hill improves to 9-11.
GAME 1: Concord 4 – Post 2
Freshman second baseman/shortstop
Jenna Witt propelled the Concord offense as Concord defeated Post by two runs.
After a scoreless first inning, the Mountain Lions took the lead in the top of the second when freshman outfielder/pitcher
Darby Fitzpatrick scored on a single by freshman first baseman/pitcher
Rachel Pritchard to give CU a 1-0 lead.
CU extended its lead to 2-0 in the third inning after Witt blasted her first career home run in the Maroon and Gray over the center field fence to leadoff the inning.
Post cut the CU lead to 2-1 on a home run of its own in the fourth inning.
However, Concord wasted no time to run its last back to two runs in the fifth inning when sophomore outfielder/pitcher
Abby Beatty singled home Witt, who landed on second base doubling to left field in the previous at-bat.
Post once again reduced the CU lead to one run after a single made the score 3-2 Concord after five.
An insurance run by CU in the seventh helped Concord bring a two-run advantage into the final at-bats for Post. Junior catcher/designated hitter
Nicole Neri used a sacrifice fly to score Witt from third and give Concord a two-run cushion.
Pritchard (2-1) closed the game out in the bottom of the seventh with the winning run at the plate, forcing two fly outs to seal her second win of the season.
Pritchard also picked up her first complete game of the year, scattering eight hits while giving up one earned run and striking out two batters.
Witt's home run highlighted her two-hit day, with the Harpers Ferry, West Virginia native also adding three runs scored.Also notching multiple hits were Beatty and Fitzpatrick, who each went 2-for-3 at the plate.
Neri drove in her first run of the season.
GAME 2: Seton Hill 4 – Concord 1
A three-run sixth inning rally from Seton Hill pushed the Griffins over the top 4-1.
After a scoreless first inning, SHU put a run on the board first in the bottom of the second on an RBI sac fly to give the Griffins a 1-0 lead.
Concord manufactured a run in the fourth inning after senior shortstop
Alayna Furr opened the inning with a single. Senior pitcher/outfielder
Sarah Herndon moved Furr to second on a sac bunt before Witt provided a timely single through the right side to score Furr from second and tie the game, 1-1.
The Griffins took the lead back in the seventh inning after scoring three runs to take a 4-1 lead heading into the top of the seventh.
SHU ended a Concord threat with two runners on base to win, 4-1.
Furr managed two hits in three at-bats, while senior third baseman
Courtney Purtell, Witt, and junior third baseman
Alycea Watson all added hits.

Allie Reid was charge with the loss in relief for the Mountain Lions.
Concord continues play in Florida against California (Pa.) at 1:00 P.M. Monday before a rematch against West Chester at 3:30.
