ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University baseball team dropped a 20-11 decision to Pitt-Johnstown in the opening game of three-game set at Anderson Field Saturday afternoon.
UPJ (7-2) jumped out to an 8-2 lead after five innings before adding three more runs in the top of the sixth inning. The Mountain Lions (2-8) answered with three in the bottom of the frame as sophomore outfielder
Evan Webb knocked in sophomore infielder Trevor Wiersm and junior catcher
Paul Williams. Webb also came around to score as junior outfielder
Oscar Garcia singled in the Whitby, Ontario native.
The Mountain Cats were able to plate nine runs in the top of the seventh to open up a 20-5 gap.
CU scored six runs over its final three at-bats, including three runs in the ninth as Webb recorded two more RBI and junior infielder
Ian Southcott notched an RBI that plated Garcia.
Webb led the offense with three hits and four RBI. Sophomore catcher
Jordan Clark, junior infielder
Chad Frazier, Garcia, freshman infielder
Nathan Neff, Southcott and Williams each recorded one RBI.
Along with Webb, Wiersma also notched a multi-hit game with two base knocks.
Senior pitcher
Austin Southcott (0-2) pitched the first 3.2 innings, allowing six earned runs. Southcott struck out three hitters.
The teams will resume their three-game set 12:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
