Concord Drops Exhibition at Akron

AKRON, Ohio – The Concord University men's basketball team fell in an exhibition to Akron, 86-49, inside Rhodes Arena Friday night.

Akron outscored the Mountain Lions 44-16 in the first half as junior guard Tommy Bolte was responsible for 12 points in the opening 20 minutes of the game.

Concord fell behind 20-8 10 minutes into the game, but held Akron scoreless for the next three minutes to close within 20-13. However, the Zips went on a 24-3 run to end the first half.

After the teams traded buckets in the opening minutes of the second, Akron opened up a 35-point lead. CU was unable to get the deficit back under 30 once more.

Bolte was the only Concord player in double figures with 15 points while also grabbing seven rebounds. Freshman forward Jyles Webster pulled down a team-best and career-best 11 rebounds.

Senior guard B.J. Hamlet scored all seven of his points in the second half. Sophomore forward Trey Brisco netted five points in the final 20 minutes of the game.

Concord resumes Mountain East Conference play 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Shepherd.
