Concord Loses in MEC Quarterfinals

WHEELING, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team saw its season end in the Mountain East Conference Tournament Quarterfinals Thursday afternoon at the McDonough Center to the University of Charleston in three sets.

CU (14-20) lost the match 25-18, 25-15, 25-16 to Charleston (17-13).

Concord stayed steady with the Golden Eagles during the first set. Charleston raced out to a 6-3 lead, but a service ace from sophomore setter Jenna Mounts and a kill from freshman right side Kenzie Coulter tied the set at 6-6. The game remained until Charleston made a run at 11-11. UC was able to score 11 of the next 17 points to gain a lead of 22-17. Concord was unable to get any closer in the set.

UC went on a 15-5 spurt to start the second game, and the Mountain Lions were never able to get any closer than nine points for the remainder of the set.

Just like the first set, the third game started tight. However, Concord could not gain an edge as it found itself trailing 9-6 after 15 points in the set. The Golden Eagles slowly pulled away
from the Mountain Lions on their way to a sweep.

Sophomore middle hitter Emily Ellis and junior middle hitter Brooke Heck paced Concord with six kills. Ellis added four blocks as well.

Freshman libero Lindsay Maddox had a match-high 16 digs.

In her final collegiate match, senior setter Casey Mandeville had 12 assists and eight digs.
