Concord Set Back at Glenville State

Box Score GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Concord University football team lost a Mountain East Conference contest 48-28 to Glenville State Saturday afternoon at Morris Stadium.

The Pioneers (2-4, 1-4 MEC) jumped out first with two scores in their first two possessions. Down 14-0, Concord (1-5, 1-5 MEC) responded with a short touchdown toss from freshman quarterback Adam Fulton to sophomore wide receiver Brandon Plyler on fourth down inside the 10-yard line.

However, Glenville State rattled off 20 unanswered points to end the first half to take a 34-7 lead to the intermission.

In the second half, the Maroon and Gray would get as close as 20 points on three different occasions in the second half, but never closed the deficit to two scores.

CU scored three times in the second half as sophomore wide receiver Camari Murray caught a touchdown on a slant route. Meanwhile, sophomore JaVaughan Burrus punched in his first score of the season from one-yard out in the third quarter.

Plyler added a second touchdown reception in the fourth quarter. The Fort Mill, South Carolina native recorded his second career multi-touchdown game.

Junior linebackers Andrew Jakubowsky and Zach Malone finished with nine tackles each. Junior defensive lineman Justin Noble tallied five tackles including two tackles for loss.

Senior defensive back Dominic Wilson intercepted his first career pass in the third quarter to set up the Burrus rushing score.

Senior running back Jamal Petty rushed for a season-high 72 yards in the setback.

Plyler caught four passes for 32 yards to go along with the two touchdowns. Murray hauled in three receptions for 71 yards.

Freshman quarterback Adam Fulton finished the game with 154 passing yards and three touchdowns, but also threw four interceptions.

The Mountain Lions return to Callaghan Stadium for Homecoming against West Virginia State 1:00 p.m. Saturday.
