Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Concord Falls Late to Urbana

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team scored the game's first goal, but Urbana score two unanswered goals including one in double overtime to down the Mountain Lions 2-1 in Mountain East Conference play at Anderson Field.

After a scoreless first half that saw junior goalkeeper Michael Adedigba make four saves to keep the game tied, senior midfielder Alex Rhodes put away a goal in the 71st minute to make it 1-0 Concord.

The goal came after CU was able to clear away a corner kick and started in transition. A pass from the defensive side of the field to sophomore forwards Sam Ashton streaking down the middle of the field was pushed onto Rhodes who beat the goalkeeper on the far side post from the right side.

It appeared the Mountain Lions might make it 2-0 as sophomore midfielder Maxime Ramioulle just missed the goal by inches less than two minutes after Rhodes' goal.

After consecutive good looks by Rhodes in the 75th minute, Urbana tied the game with a score in the 76th minute.

CU had three attempts in the final eight minutes including a header by senior midfielder Yacouba Issa Traore that was cleared off the goal line at the last moment.

Each team had a shot in the first overtime, but neither was on target.

UU scored the game-winning goal two minutes into the second overtime.

Ramioulle and Rhodes each had two shots on goal while Adedigba made five saves in the game.

Before Saturday's game, Adedigba, senior defender Dean Byrne, senior midfielder Mahamadou Coulibaly, senior midfielder Michael D'Angelo, senior defender Darren Onwu, Rhodes and Traore were honored as the senior class for men's soccer.

The contest at Anderson Field against Urbana was the final game of the season for the Mountain Lions who finished fifth in the MEC this season, the highest finish for CU in program history.
