WEST LIBERTY, W.Va- The Concord University women's basketball team fell 88-76 to West Liberty in Mountain East Conference basketball action on Monday afternoon.
Concord falls to 2-11 (1-8 MEC), while West Liberty improves to 5-11 overall, (4-6 MEC).
West Liberty ran out to a 19-9 lead in the first quarter. The Hilltoppers controlled most of the first half, never leading by less than six throughout the second quarter, but could not pull away from CU. WLU took a 36-27 lead into halftime.
An 11-3 run to open the second half threatened to put CU in a tough spot early in the second half as the Hilltoppers led by 17, 47-30, with 5:27 left in the third quarter. However, Concord went on a 24-12 run to end the quarter to cut the lead to five entering the final period. Senior guard
Alexis Lowery scored 21 of her 24 points in the second and third quarter to help Concord claw its way back into the game.
Five, however, was the closest that the Mountain Lions came to taking the lead, with the last occurrence happening with 8:26 left on the game clock. The Hilltoppers gradually restored a double-digit lead and made free throws down the stretch to preserve a 12-point win.

Lindsey Overbey each scored in double figures off the bench with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Concord returns to action at home against UVa.-Wise 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
