ATHENS, W.Va- The Concord University men's soccer team was defeated by the University of Charleston 5-1 in men's soccer action on Thursday evening.Â

Charleston improves to 7-0-0 (3-0 MEC), while Concord drops to 3-4 (2-3 MEC) on the season.Â

Concord looked to get off on the right foot early, as freshman midfielder
Josh Mattson struck a volley from distance that was blocked by the UC defense in the 14
th minute. However, Charleston capitalized on its fifth shot of the game after Patrick Guier crossed a ball from the right side that Will Roberts headed in from about six yards out.Â
Junior midfielder
Max Simpson fired a low shot in the 29th minute that forced a save from UC goalkeeper Fabian Veit.Â
Charleston added a second goal just before halftime after Gabriel Cabral rocketed a shot into the upper left side of the net from about 25 yards out.Â
Sophomore goalkeeper
Michael Adedigba managed to keep the score 2-0 after diving to his right to save a penalty kick in the 50
th minute.Â
However, Charleston then added a third and fourth goal in the 56
th and 72
nd minute respectively.Â
Concord found the back of the net in the 77
th minute after junior midfielder
Mahamadou Coulibaly fired a low shot that Veit parried to his right.
Jack Garwood was on hand to tap in the rebound for Concord's lone goal of the game.Â
The Golden Eagles tallied a fifth goal with three minutes left to play.
UC outshot Concord 17-6 overall, and held a 12-1 advantage in corner kicks.  Â
Adedigba made three saves in net for the Mountain Lions.

Concord will face a nonconference test when it welcomes Chowan University on Wednesday, September 28
th. The game will be played in Beckley, West Virginia at the YMCA Paul Cline Memorial Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.   Â
