ERIE, Pa. – The Concord University volleyball team wrapped up its time at the MEC-PSAC Crossover as it lost two matches to Mercyhurst and Indiana (Pa.), both in four sets.
Match 1: Mercyhurst 3 – Concord 1
After dropping the first two sets, the Mountain Lions (3-6) stormed back to win the third set, but was narrowly edged 25-23 in the fourth set as the comeback fell short.
MU (5-1) took the first two sets 25-17 and 25-18.
After falling behind 14-9 in set three, Concord ran off nine of the next 11 points to grab an 18-16 lead. The run was fueled by two kills from sophomore middle hitter
Brooke Heck, two service aces from sophomore libero
Erin Shannon and an additional ace from junior setter
Casey Mandeville.
From there, the Mountain Lions traded points with Mercyhurst as Concord won the third set 25-23.
Concord gained a 12-8 lead in the fourth set, but the Lakers came back with a 5-1 run in the set. CU answered the spurt with a 6-2 outburst at 16-16 to take a 21-18 lead, however, the Maroon and Gray could not hold off as Mercyhurst as it won seven of the final eight points of the match to win in four sets.

Emily Ellis paced the Concord offense with 11 kills. Heck recorded nine kills while Mandeville tallied 29 of the 31 assists for the Mountain Lions.
Match 2: Indiana (Pa.) 3 – Concord 1
Once again, CU could not overcome a 2-0 deficit to begin the match as it rallied to win the third set and dropped the fourth set 26-24.
IUP won the first two sets, 25-20, before the Mountain Lions took the third set by the same score.
In set three, Concord ended the set on a 10-6 run after having a 15-14 lead. Heck and Ellis had three and two kills, respectively, while sophomore middle hitter
Lindsay Lannen and sophomore outside hitter
Alexi Pranckus each had one kill during the run.
The fourth set was tight throughout, but the Crimson Hawks were able to erase a 16-10 deficit and win 26-24.

Jenna Mounts topped the assist column for Concord with 20 while Mandeville had 18. Shannon notched 19 digs.
Concord will be back in action Tuesday as it faces Virginia Union and Southern Virginia on the campus of SVU in Buena Vista, Virginia at 5 and 7 p.m.
