ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University baseball team split the final two games of its Mountain East Conference South Division series with the University of Charleston at Anderson Field as UC took game one, 9-5, but Concord recovered for a 13-9 victory in the second game.
Game 1: Charleston 9 – Concord 5
A four-run sixth inning by the Golden Eagles (15-31, 8-20 MEC) pushed UC to a win in game one.
The first four runs of the game belonged to Charleston before Concord (21-23, 15-13 MEC) struck for three in the bottom of the fourth. With two on and one out, freshman infielder
Brett Simmons singled back up the middle to get the Mountain Lions within two runs. Simmons scored two batters later on a base hit by senior infielder
Brad Sullivan.
Charleston scratched across four runs in the sixth, all with two outs, as it extended the lead to 8-3. Down 9-3 entering the seventh, CU received RBI from redshirt freshman infielder
Adrian Peralta and sophomore catcher
Paul Williams, but could not draw any closer than 9-5.

Trevor Wiersma and Williams all had two hits for Concord while Simmons drove in two runs.
Sophomore pitcher
Reece Edwards (2-2) was hit with the loss for CU as allowed five earned runs in 5.1 innings while striking out three.
Game 2: Concord 13 – Charleston 9
The Mountain Lions jumped out to a 12-0 advantage after two innings as they earned a series split by holding on for a four-run victory.
Sullivan started a five-run first inning as he launched his second career home, a solo shot to left field. Sophomore outfielder
Andy Szamski also collected two RBI in the inning on a single.
Concord's offense added seven more runs in the second behind two more RBI from Szamski and a two-run double from redshirt freshman outfielder
Jordan Clark. Also in the frame, Sullivan added an RBI in two different at-bats.
The Maroon and Gray plated a run in the sixth on a bases-loaded walk drawn by Sullivan.
UC chipped away at the Concord lead, but never got closer than the final margin of victory for CU.
Sullivan finished the game 4-for-4 with a home run and four RBI. Szamski added an additional four RBI and three hits.
Clark and Williams each had two hits and two RBI while senior infielder

Chad Frazier contribute two hits apiece.
Junior pitcher
Nate Werner improved to 6-4 on the mound as he pitched seven innings giving up five runs on six hits and fanning four batters. To start the game, Werner retired the first 13 UC hitters.
The Mountain Lions finish the season with a four-game series against UVa.-Wise with the first two games being played at UVa.-Wise Friday and the third and four games being contested at Anderson Field.
