After Glenville State plated two unearned runs in the third, CU responded with five runs in the fourth.
Three consecutive singles including an RBI base hit by redshirt freshman infielder
Trevor Wiersma got Concord on the board before sophomore outfielder
Andy Szamski drilled a two-out double to the left center field gap to score Wiersma. Williams capped the scoring by launching a two-run home run over the left field fence. Concord's other RBI in the inning came courtesy of redshirt freshman outfielder
Jordan Clark.
The Mountain Lions added a run in the fifth and another in the sixth as sophomore infielder
Chad Frazier recorded an RBI single and senior infielder
Holt Cassada had a RBI fielder's choice.
The runs were more than enough for sophomore pitcher
Reece Edwards who surrendered five hits and two runs (both unearned) while striking out four batters in a complete-game win.
Edwards moved to 2-1 on the season with the win.
Six different players recorded RBI for CU with Williams leading the way with two. Frazier, Szamski and Williams each had two hits for Concord while Szamski added two runs scored.
Game 2: Concord 8 – Glenville State 3
The Mountain Lions jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings on their way to a second straight five-run win over Glenville State.
Senior outfielder
Andrew Seigel, senior infielder
Brad Sullivan and Frazier all reached to start the game as Frazier's single scored Seigel. The next batter, Wiersma, brought home Frazier and Sullivan on his own base knock. Later in the frame, senior infielder
Holt Cassada capped the four-run inning with a double down the left field line to plate Clark.
Two more runs scored for the Mountain Lions in the second on an RBI groundout by Wiersma and a single by Clark.
With CU leading 7-0 in the fifth, the Pioneers got on the scoreboard with two runs and added a run in the sixth to draw within 7-3. It was the closest Glenville State would get as junior pitcher
Nate Werner retired 10 of the last 11 hitters he faced.
Concord also added one more insurance run in the eighth on a sacrifice bunt from Frazier to go on and win 8-3.
Werner earned his first career nine-inning complete game as he improved to 5-4 this season. Werner scattered seven hits and three runs while fanning four batters in his complete-game effort.
