WINGATE, N.C. – The Concord University baseball team lost 9-8 as it could not hold an 8-4 lead Sunday afternoon at Wingate in non-conference play.
Wingate (8-5) jumped on CU (0-6) early with four runs in the top of the first inning, but the offense was just getting started for both teams.
In the top of the third, the Mountain Lions produced five runs to gain a 5-4 edge. Concord took advantage of three errors by WU in the frame. After loading the bases, CU recorded back-to-back-to-back RBI hits as redshirt freshman catcher / first baseman

CU added to its slim lead in the fourth with three more runs to take an 8-4 lead. Once again, the Mountain Lions used two Wingate fielding errors to score the runs. Clark was at the center of the scoring as senior infielder

Andrew Seigel scored on a one-out single by Clark. Sophomore outfielder
Andy Szamski also scored in the fourth on one of the WU errors.
The Bulldogs answered with a run in the fourth and two in the fifth to draw to within 8-7. In the sixth inning, Wingate overtook Concord for the lead as it added another two runs for a 9-8 lead.
CU was able to get two runners aboard in the eighth inning, but both were stranded on base to end the threat.
Wingate's Tyler Brown retired the Mountain Lions 1-2-3 in the top of the ninth as Concord fell 9-8.
Clark led the offensive attack with a 3-for-5 showing with three RBI.
Sullivan also had three hits with two runs scored. Senior infielder
Holt Cassada, Seigel and Wiersma each had two hits as Concord pounded out 15 hits.

Nate Werner (0-2) was hit with the loss out of the bullpen.
The Mountain Lions welcome Pitt-Johnstown for a three-game set at Epling Stadium in Beckley, West Virginia 12:00 p.m. Saturday. Â
