Concord Rally Falls Short Against Urbana

ATHENS, W.Va. – A frantic rally by the Concord University women's basketball team came up short Thursday night against Urbana in Mountain East Conference action at the Carter Center as it fell 90-84.

After trailing by 13 points after three quarters, the Mountain Lions (5-20, 3-16 MEC) scored the first 15 points of the final period to overtake Urbana (11-12, 10-9 MEC) 80-78 with 7:13 remaining in the contest.

Concord used the three ball to ignite the rally. Sophomore guard Danielle Catron connected on two three-pointers in the first 50 seconds of the fourth quarter with a layup by sophomore guard Lindsey Overbey sandwiched between triples from Catron.

A three-pointer by freshman guard Emily Boothe was followed by a layup from Boothe and a pair of foul shots from junior guard Olivia Morgan as Concord overtook Urbana. But, the Blue Knights responded with five straight points to gain an 83-80 edge.

Another layup from Boothe trimmed the deficit to 83-82 with 4:02 left, but the Mountain Lions were only able to cut the UU lead to three points once more in the game as Concord fell 90-84.

Catron fell just short of her first double-double with 20 points and nine rebounds. It was the fifth time the Marion, Virginia native has scored 20 or points this season.

Boothe poured in 19 points on the night with 12 of them coming in the second half.

Overbey also finished in double figures with 10 points while also swatting two shots, a season-high in blocks.

Freshman forward Courtney White had her best game in the Maroon and Gray in her young career as she scored six points and grabbed eight rebounds, several of which helped CU climb back into the game.

Concord finished 15-for-17 at the foul line (88.2 percent) as Boothe and sophomore guard Marta Moix.
