PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Concord University baseball team lost to UNC-Pembroke 17-5 Sunday afternoon in non-conference.
Like in game one of the weekend series, Concord (0-3) scored in the first inning as redshirt freshman infielder
Trevor Wiersma doubled home senior outfielder
Andrew Seigel and senior infielder
Brad Sullivan to give Concord a 2-0 advantage.
UNC-Pembroke (5-0) took control of the game by scoring eight runs over the next innings as they grew the lead to 10-2 after four innings.
Concord scored one run in the fifth on an run-scoring hit from sophomore outfielder
Andy Szamski and plated two more runs on back-to-back sacrifice flies by Szamski and Wiersma in the seventh. However, CU could not avoid UNCP scoring six runs in the fifth inning as the Braves went on to win 17-5.
Senior infielder
Holt Cassada and Seigel each had two hits in the contest while Szamski (two RBI) and Wiersma (three RBI) combined to drive in Concord's five runs.
Szamski wrapped up the opening series of the season with one home run and eight RBI.

Brett Simmons each scored two runs.
Sophomore pitcher
Damon Frazier (0-1) was the pitcher of record for the Mountain Lions.
CU opens up a three-game set Saturday at Wingate with a doubleheader against the Bulldogs.
