CU is 3-2 this season while Bluefield State is 1-6.
LAST TIME OUT
The Mountain Lions lost their first Mountain East Conference game of the season Monday as it fell to the University of Charleston, 91-80.
Senior guard
Aaron Miller paced Concord with 22 points on 8-for-15 shooting. Senior forward
Stephen Thompson scored 10 of his 15 points in the second half while junior guard BJ Hamlet netted all 14 of his points in first half as he connected on four three-pointers.
Junior forward
Babe Murphy was also in double figures with 11 points, and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
DOWNTOWN SUCCESS
The Mountain Lions hit 11 three-pointers at Charleston and have now made 10 or more three pointers in four of its five games this season.
The last time CU made 10 or more three-pointers four times in a five-game stretch was last season from January 16-28 when the Maroon and Gray made 10 or more shots from beyond the arc in five straight games.
Concord is second in the MEC in made three-pointers per game at 12.8. CU has made 64 three-pointers through five games this season.
Miller (15), Hamlet (11) and Thompson (11) are one of two trio of teammates in the conference that have made 10 or more treys this season. Fairmont State's D'Ondre Stockman, Jason Jolly and Thomas Wimbush have also hit 10 or more shots from distance.
BALANCING ACT
Concord will start the week with six different players averaging seven or more points per game. Miller (20.4), Thompson (16.8) and Murphy (10.4) are all averaging double figures. Senior
Michael Sanchez (9.4), Hamlet (7.8) and sophomore guard
Tommy Bolte (7.2) are all scoring averaging seven or more points per game.
The last time Concord had six more players averaging at least seven points per game was the 2013-14 season. A group that included Hamlet scoring 7.6 points per game and senior guard
Cam Shannon pouring in 11.0 per contest.
GOING NEXT LEVEL
Heading into the BSC game, Thompson has scored 84 points while Murphy has recorded 52 points this season.
Thompson has nearly doubled his point total from last season when he scored 44 points in 26 games. Meanwhile Murphy's career high for points in a season is 78 which he tallied last season.
Prior to this season, Murphy had scored 136 points for his Concord career.
SUCCESS AT THE SHOTT
The Mountain Lions have won their last two contests at Bluefield State.
Last season, CU defeated the Blues 81-66 last season and grabbed an 86-64 win two seasons ago. Both victories were a part of Bluefield State's Currence Classic.
Miller scored 23 points against the Blues last season on 8-for-16 shooting. And two seasons ago, the Stephens City, Virginia native was very effect scoring 20 points on 6-for-8 shooting and canning 4-of-5 three-pointers in the game.
Going back to the start of the decade, the Maroon and Gray has won five of its last seven games on the road versus Bluefield State.
SCOUTING BLUEFIELD STATE
The Blues picked up their first win of the season Saturday by defeating Tuskegee, 75-70, at the Florida Tech Thanksgiving Touranment.
Bluefield State has four players averaging double figures led by Marcus Richardson at 12.1 points per game. Josh Windham (11.7), Julian Hernandez (10.4) and Greg Purnell (10.3) also average more than 10 points per game.
BSC is shooting just 37.3 percent from the field this season.
Derrick Price is in his first season at Bluefield State as head coach after previously serving as an assistant coach at Bluefield College.
