Concord Earns Point Against Notre Dame College

ATHENS, W.Va- The Concord University men's soccer team earned a 1-1 draw against MEC leaders Notre Dame College Wednesday evening.

Concord now stands at 6-10-1 on the year, while NDC is now 9-4-2 this season.

The two teams battled to a scoreless opening 30 minutes with the Mountain Lions holding a slight shot advantage as freshman midfielder Yacouba Issa Traore had a shot blocked and a shot go wide at the 13:53 and the 15:57 mark respectively.

The Mountain Lions capitalized on the early chances after a long throw in from senior defender Jared Garlow bounced around in the box. Traore reacted quickly and headed the ball across the goal, where freshman defender Pedro Bassin leapt and volleyed a low, hard shot into the bottom right corner of the net.

Notre Dame attempted to get back into the game just three minutes later as Julian Castro fired a shot wide of goal. Freshman goalkeepe James Sinclair was called into action for the first time in the 37th minute to make a save on a header from NDC's Arthur Favero.

Concord took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

Sinclair made another save in the 52nd minute from Castro, before sophomore forward Jonathan Hardman forced NDC's Daniele De Angelis into a save just two minutes later.

Notre Dame found the equalizer in the 86th minute after Guilherme Gloria crossed a ball that was headed in by Leonardo Paiva. The game would remain tied at one heading into overtime.

Notre Dame had several shots go wide and high of the goal in the first period of overtime.  At the start of the second period, the Falcons had a free kick hit the post. The Mountain Lions managed several corner kicks in the second overtime period but could not capitalize as the game ended 1-1.

Concord's backline of Bassin, Garlow, junior defender Dean Byrne, and sophomore defender Xander Bailey held the Falcons to just three shots on target, with Bassin and Hardman providing Concord's attempts on frame. NDC had a 7-6 advantage on corner kicks.
