WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team dropped a three-set match (23-25, 22-25, 19-25) to West Liberty Tuesday afternoon in Mountain East Conference play at the ASRC.
Sophomore middle hitter
Brooke Heck led the Mountain Lions (13-12, 6-5 MEC) with 14 kills. Sophomore libero
Erin Shannon notched 26 digs while freshman outside hitter Emily contributed six kills and four blocks.
In the first set, West Liberty (19-11, 7-5 MEC) did not allow Concord to take the lead as the Mountain Lions tied the game on five occasions, but could never overtake the Hilltoppers.
CU jumped out to a 13-10 lead in the second set as redshirt freshman outside hitter
Ellie Lawrence notched two kills while Ellis, Heck and sophomore outside hitter
Alexi Pranckus each had one in the stretch. The Mountain Lions continued to hang onto a 20-17 lead, but WLU finished the set on an 8-2 run to win the second set.
West Liberty grabbed control of the third set with a 13-7 lead before Concord used an 8-2 of its own to draw to within 17-15. Heck and Lawrence powered the spurt with two kills each. After consecutive kills from Heck and Pranckus, the Mountain Lions edged to within two points, 19-17, of the Hilltoppers in the third game. However, WLU finished on a 6-2 run to sweep the match.

Casey Mandeville handed out 21 assists while junior libero
Nicci Hutzell had 11 digs.
The Mountain Lions play host to Virginia State and Bluefield State Saturday in a triangular match at the Carter Center beginning at 4:30 p.m.
