Concord Readies for Games at Wheeling Jesuit, Versus Shippensburg

ATHENS, W.Va-  The Concord University men's soccer team will travel to Wheeling, West Virginia 5:30 p.m. Thursday to face the Cardinals before hosting Shippensburg 2:00 p.m. Monday. 
 
Concord is 5-7 on the season (3-5-3 MEC), while WJU is 4-8 on the year (2-5 MEC).  Shippensburg is 5-8 overall, with a 2-7 record in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play.

Mountain Lion Notes
Concord is 5-7 on the season (3-5-3 MEC), while WJU is 4-8 on the year (2-5 MEC). 

Shippensburg is 5-8 overall, with a 2-7 record in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play. 

Concord has split its last two games, falling to Urbana on Friday before coming from behind to defeat Shepherd 4-1 in Shepherdstown on Sunday. 

Freshman forward Sam Ashton continued his strong start to the season by netting a goal from the penalty spot to help Concord gain the lead against the Rams. 

The goal helped spark four unanswered scores for the Mountain Lions. 

Concord has scored four goals three times this season. The Mountain Lions are 3-0 in those games.

The win also marks the third time this season that Concord has come back from a one-goal deficit to defeat the opposition after 90 minutes. 

The other two times was against at home against West Virginia Wesleyan and at Findlay in the second game of the season.

Ashton now has six goals on the year, which puts the Hampshire, England native into a tie for fourth in the Mountain East Conference in goals scored. 

Also scoring against the Rams was junior midfielder Max Simpson, who notched a goal and two assists against SU. 

Simpson has now compiled four goals and five assists on the season, with his five assists putting the Huntington, West Virginia native in a tie for second in the MEC. 

Freshman midfielder Yacouba Issa Traore scored his fourth goal of the season against Shepherd, while senior defender Jared Garlow notched his second career goal and his first of the season. 

Freshman forward Jack Garwood scored his third goal of the season off of a free kick against the Blue Knights. 

Against the Cardinals earlier this season in Athens, Ashton scored the opening goal before Pedro Bassin knocked in a header at the back post in a 3-2 loss. 

Concord's last meeting against Shippensburg occurred in the 2011 season, in which Concord lost a 1-0 overtime decision. 
 
SCOUTING WHEELING JESUIT
The Cardinals are 4-8 on the year, and have lost six straight.

Teavon Spencer has netted four goals this season. Aitor de Heredia has added three goals, all of which came against the Mountain Lions in Athens earlier this season. 

Brent Pedlow and Jordan Frommeyer have also added three goals this season.
 
SCOUTING SHIPPENSBURG
The Raiders have dropped six straight contests, all by a one-goal margin. 

Colten Arnold has notched six goals and seven assists in 13 games this season.

Jan Striewe has added six goals for the Raiders. 

The Raiders have lost three overtime games this season.
