Concord Opens Up MEC Play

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team embarks on the beginning of the Mountain East Conference play 7:00 p.m. Friday at Charleston before returning home Saturday for a 5:00 p.m. contest against West Virginia State.

RECORDS
• CU is 1-13 this season.

• The Golden Eagles are 4-6 overall and 0-1 in the league.

• West Virginia State is 3-6 overall this season.

THE COACHES
• Concord's Kate Southcott is 85-129 in seven seasons at CU.

• Jenna Brown of Charleston is in her second season, and has a record of 13-24 overall.

• WVSU's Shannon Gerencir is 202-204 in 14 seasons.

MOUNTAIN LION NOTES
• Concord will be seeking to win its first conference-opening match since 2012 when it knocked off then-WVIAC foe Bluefield State to start the league slate.

• Over her last six games, freshman middle hitter Brooke Heck has hit at least .200 or better in five of those matches.

• Additionally, Heck has committed three or less errors in 13 of 14 matches this season and the most errors she has committed in a match is four.

• The Huntington, West Virginia native leads the Mountain Lions in hitting percentage at .299 this season in 194 chances.

• Last week, sophomore setter Casey Mandeville notched her fifth 20-assist match of the season after dishing out 21 assists versus Edinboro.

• All of last season, Mandeville only had two matches with 20 or more assists.

• Over the weekend, freshman libero Erin Shannon posted back-to-back matches of 20 or more digs, and finished with a career-high 26 digs against EU.

• Last season, the Mountain Lions lost two, five-set matches to Charleston.

• Against the Golden Eagles, sophomore outside hitter Lisette Roldan posted 16 kills in two matches while sophomore middle hitter Shea Hoffman added eight kills at UC.

• The Mountain Lions swept a two-game regular season series against West Virginia State a season ago, beating WVSU 3-0 at home and 3-1 on the road.

• At West Virginia State, Roldan tied her career-best with 12 kills.

SCOUTING CHARLESTON
• Mia Herrod leads the Golden Eagles with 110 kills.

• As a team, UC is hitting .219 this season while holding its opponents to .194.

• Charleston has last both five-set matches it has played this season.
