Concord to Continue Conference Play Versus Fairmont State, at Shepherd

ATHENS, W.Va. - The Concord University women's soccer team will be looking to get its first conference win when it faces first-year Mountain East Conference foe Fairmont State in a matchup on 2:00 p.m. Friday at Anderson Field before traveling to Shepherd 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

RECORDS
• The Mountain Linos are 1-1-1 overall in 2015 and 0-1-0 in conference play.

• Fairmont State stands at 0-2 in its inaugural season as a Division II member in women's soccer.

• Shepherd sits at 1-1 on the season, defeating Chowan 4-0 and losing to Notre Dame College 1-0. 

MOUNTAIN LION NOTES
• Concord has scored four of its five goals this season in the second half, outscoring its opponents 4-1 after the first 45. 

• Concord has doubled the amount of corners taken over their opponents this season, with 18 corners earned to the opponents nine. 

• Senior forward Kari Simon has already tallied three goals and one assist on the season so far.

• Simon's three goals have been scored while attempting just five shots on goal. 

• The Mineral Wells, West Virginia native needs just six more goals to tie Annette Laursen for fifth on the all-time scoring chart. 

• Freshman goalkeeper Emily Simpkins has allowed just three goals this season so far with a goals allowed average of 0.93 which ranks third in the MEC.

• Simpkins has 12 saves through the first three games of the year with a .800 save percentage.

• CU's back line defense of freshman Katelyn Gibbs, sophomore Carley Graves, freshman Alison Backel, and  freshmanTannis Jackson have allowed just three goals in the three games that they have started. 

• Along with playing stout defense, Gibbs recorded her first collegiate goal last Thursday at Converse as the Powell, Tennessee native scored on a penalty kick for the Mountain Lions.

• Concord's attack currently averages 1.67 goals per game, good for second in the Mountain East behind Charleston. 

SCOUTING FAIRMONT STATE
• Fairmont State did take nationally-ranked West Virginia Wesleyan to overtime in their second game of the season before eventually falling 2-1. 

• FSU has 17 freshman listed on their roster, with five sophomores and four juniors rounding out the rest of the team. 

SCOUTING SHEPHERD 
• Shepherd is coming off of a 9-9-1 season in which they lost to number one seed Notre Dame College in the semifinals of the Mountain East Conference Tournament. 

• Shepherd returns sophomore second team All-MEC selection Regan Stout to a defense that allowed 1.21 goals per game last season.

• The Rams will take on Wheeling Jesuit at home on Friday before facing Concord on Sunday.
