SALEM, Va. – The Concord University softball team had its run at the Mountain East Conference Tournament end Sunday morning as it lost 7-1 to Notre Dame in the loser's bracket final.
Notre Dame's Ashley Hall, who was making her fifth start of the tournament, limited CU (33-17, 19-7) to two hits.
The Mountain Lions' lone run came on a solo home run by senior outfielder
Jessica Seymour. For Seymour it was her first run home of the season and came with two outs in the third.
At the time, Seymour's long ball to straight away center field knotted the game with NDC (25-28, 14-14 MEC) 1-1.
However, the Falcons added three runs in the fourth inning to create separation once again, and then added a run in the sixth and two more in the seventh.
Sophomore shortstop
Alayna Furr had the other Concord hit as she went 1-for-3 at the plate. Freshman infielder
Alycea Watson was able to reach base against Hall, getting hit by a pitch.
Freshman pitcher
Katie Snodgress (7-4) was tagged with the loss as she went four innings giving up four runs (two earned) and striking out three batters.
Sophomore pitcher
Sarah Herndon and junior pitcher
Allie Reid also threw for Concord.
Entering the tournament, the Mountain Lions were ranked sixth in the regional rankings with the top eight teams moving on to regional play next weekend.
