ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University football team rolled to a 52-7 win over West Virginia State in the final game of the 2015 season.
The Mountain Lions (5-5, 5-5 MEC) got contributions from several seniors on a day when the class of 2015 was celebrated prior to the game.
Senior wide receiver
Tiko Henderson got Concord on the board in the first quarter as he busted through the punt unit of West Virginia State (5-5, 5-4 MEC) and blocked his first punt of the season, then picked up the ball and scored from 35 yards out.
After tying the game, CU scored two touchdowns in the final 1:35 of the first quarter to take a commanding 21-7 lead after 15 minutes of play.
Sophomore running back
Jamal Petty capped off a short three-play drive with a 29-yard run, then senior running back
Calvinaugh Jones found the end zone on a 28-yard run. Both short fields were set up by a second blocked punt by senior linebacker
Cade Rogers and a forced fumbled by senior defensive back
Derrick Johnson. The fumble was picked up by senior defensive back
Jocorey Robins and run deep into WVSU territory.
The Mountain Lions capitalized on a long 11-play drive to start the second quarter, ending with freshman quarterback
Justin Cogar rushing for a three-yard touchdown. Senior kicker
Andy Ellington put the finishing touches on an excellent first half by converting a 44-yard field as time expired in the second quarter. CU led 31-7 at the intermission.
Cogar found Jones on a seven-yard touchdown for Jones' second receiving score of the season and Cogar's first career passing touchdown to begin the third quarter while junior quarterback
Brian Novak added two long passing scores of his own  in the third period. Novak's first touchdown was a 68-yard strike to sophomore wide receiver
Jermeil Douse and Novak connected with Henderson on a 55-yard pass later in the third.
After three passing scores, Concord led 52-7 and won by the same score.
CU's top three tacklers on the afternoon were all seniors in defensive lineman
Ervin Moore and linebackers
Austin Dotson and Rogers. Moore finished with a career-high 13 tackles and a 1.5 tackle for loss. Dotson added 10 tackles for the third time in four games. The Pound, Virginia native also contributed a sack. Â Meanwhile, Rogers had six tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, two sacks and his team-best third blocked kick of the season.
Douse notched a career-best 171 yards receiving and a touchdown. Novak finished the game 15-for-22 for 295 yards and two touchdowns. In the process, Novak passed Mike Lazo for second on the all-time passing touchdowns list at CU with 56 for his career.
Jones ran for 104 yards in his final game at Concord. The Glen Burnie, Maryland native finishes his career as the all-time leading rusher at Concord with 4,638 yards and 35 rushing touchdowns.
Dotson and Moore both rank in the top 10 in total tackles in the careers with 212 and 213 tackles respectively.
With a week 11 bye, Saturday was the final game of the season for Concord.
