Concord Opens Conference Play with Win over West Virginia State.

Box Score INSTITUTE, W.VA- The Concord University Women's basketball team evened it's record at 2-2 on the season after defeating West Virginia State on the road in the conference opener for both teams. 
 
Concord is now 1-0 in conference play, while West Virginia State falls to 1-3 (0-1 MEC).
 
The Mountain Lions controlled the first quarter against the Yellow Jackets, taking an 18-11 lead at the first intermission.  However, West Virginia State stormed back in the second quarter, outscoring the Mountain Lions 17-6 to regain the lead going into halftime 28-24.  
 
Concord battled with the Yellow Jackets all throughout the third quarter, scoring 25 points throughout the third period, one more then they managed to score between the first two quarters combined.  West Virginia State managed to open up a five point lead 40-35 with 3:25 left in the third, but Concord managed to rally and go up 12 with 2:06 left in the fourth.  Concord succeeded in fending off the Yellow Jackets late rally to seal the win.    
 
The Mountain Lions were led in scoring by sophomore guard Danielle Catron, who scored 21 points to break her personal career-high of 19 points she scored in Wednesday's game against Bluefield State. 

Senior forward Kylie Molisee contributed her second double double of the season, scoring 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. 

Junior guard Alexis Lowery also continued her strong start to the season, setting a new career-high in points scored with 18, and also adding four rebounds, four assists, three blocks, and a steal. 

The trio combined to score 59 of Concord's 66 points. 

Junior guard Olivia Morgan also filled up the box score by adding three points, three rebounds, and three assists. 
 
The Mountain Lions were efficient from behind the arc, making 57.1% of their three pointers attempted to the Yellow Jackets 9.1%.  Concord's bench was also key, as Lowery's 18 points along with four points from sophomore guard Lindsey Overbey helped the Mountain Lions outscore the Yellow Jackets in bench points 22-5. 
 
Concord will return home to face Charleston in a Mountain East Conference matchup on Monday, November 23rd.  Tip is set for 5:30 p.m.
