Concord Looks to Gain Ground in MEC at Urbana, Versus Shepherd

ATHENS, W.Va. - The Concord University men's soccer team looks to move up in the Mountain East Conference standings on Friday when it travel to nationally-ranked Urbana before returning home to face Shepherd in a pair of MEC matchups.        

RECORDS
• Concord heads into the matchup with a 3-7 record, and a 2-5 record in MEC play. With six points, Concord trails West Virginia Wesleyan and Wheeling Jesuit by three points for the last playoff spot in the MEC. 

• Urbana goes into the game with a 8-1-1 record, and a 6-1 record against Mountain East foes.  The Blue Knights currently lead the Mountain East with 18 points, having played one more game than second-place and #5 nationally-ranked Charleston. 


MOUNTAIN LION NOTES
• The Mountain Lions have dropped two straight Mountain East decisions after losing to Notre Dame 5-0 and also falling in a tight contest to West Virginia Wesleyan 1-0.

• Urbana has won eight straight games and comes into the game ranked 20th in the most recent Division II poll. Urbana defeated Notre Dame on the road 2-1 on Tuesday and beat Wheeling Jesuit 4-0 away from home on October 3rd

• Concord is led in points by sophomore midfielder Max Simpson, who has three goals and one assist on the year. 

• Senior goalkeeper Mitchell Thompson is tied for third in the conference in shutouts with two in his six games played this season. 

• Thompson is fourth in the conference in saves per game with a 5.33 average.

Freshman defender Sergio Moreno, enior defender Alex Williams, enior defender Joe Sweet, sophomore midfielder Adam Carnwath, senior midfielder Eduardo Filho, and Simpson have played and started in all ten matches for Concord this season. 
 
 
SCOUTING URBANA
• Raoui Lassoued and Mike McFarlane lead the Blue Knights in scoring, with six goals each so far.

• McFarlane's six goals have come on just 12 shots this season.

• Since losing to Charleston in the second game of the season, 4-1, Urbana has won eight straight contests and outscored their opponents 18-5 during that span. 

Goalkeeper Nathan Jones leads the Mountain East Conference in save percentage at .867.

SCOUTING SHEPHERD
• Goalkeeper Dmitre Snowdy leads the conference in saves per game with an average of 7.33. 

• Shepherd has lost 5 straight contests since defeating Washington Adventist 3-2 on September 16.

• Shepherd has managed to score at least one goal in seven of their 10 games this season.
