Concord Faces Tough Test Versus No. 25 Notre Dame

ATHENS, W.Va. - The Concord University men's soccer team looks to get back in the win column when they take on nationally-ranked Notre Dame College at the YMCA Sports Complex in Beckley, West Virginia.The matchup is scheduled for a 10 a.m. kickoff Saturday.

RECORDS
Concord goes into the game with a 3-5 record overall after splitting a pair of nonconference games with Chowan (W 1-0), and Catawba (L 2-1 OT).  Concord currently stands at 2-3 in the Mountain East Conference. The Mountain Lions currently sit one game out of a playoff spot in fifth as they trail Wheeling Jesuit who sits at 3-2 for the fourth and final spot. 

The Falcons come into the matchup 6-3 overall and are also 3-2 in the conference. 

MOUNTAIN LION NOTES
• Of sophomore midfielder Max Simpson's six shots on goal, three of them have resulted in scores.

• Simpson is averaging either a goal or an assist every other game this season. 

• Concord's six goals this season have come from four different players.  Simpson (three), sophomore midfielder Alex Rhodes, freshman forward Jonathan Hardman, and freshman midfielder Mahamadou Coulibaly

• With Concord's three wins to start the season, they have already surpassed the win total from the 2014 team. 

• 48 percent of Concord's shots have been on frame this season, an improvement from 45 percent of shots on goal last season.

• Senior defender Joe Sweet has moved into fifth all-time in games played for Concord with 55.  Senior defender Tyler Harris ranks sixth with 53 appearances, and senior goalkeeper Mitchell Thompson is currently tied for ninth with 45 appearances. 

• Thompson has also added to his school-record saves total this season, having accumulated 235 saves so far throughout his career at Concord. This season, Thompson has amassed 27 saves. 

• Concord has gotten off to a 3-5 start against opponents whose combined winning percentage is .580 so far this season. 

• Senior goalkeeper Logan Powell has started the last three games in net for the Mountain Lions, compiling 16 saves and a save percentage of .762.

•With CU's game on turf Saturday morning, two of Concord's three wins this season have come on turf surfaces at Wheeling Jesuit and at Shepherd.

SCOUTING NOTRE DAME
• The Falcons leading scorer this season is Leonardo Paiva, who has nine goals and three assists through eight games this season.

• NDC is coming off of back-to-back losses to number one Charleston and Slippery Rock by the scores of 2-0 and 2-1 respectively. 

• The Falcons are averaging 18.8 shots per game, and are only allowing their opponents to attempt 7.8 shots per game.
