ATHENS, W.Va- The Concord University men's soccer team fell 1-0 to the visiting Shepherd Rams Sunday afternoon at Anderson Field in a Mountain East Conference matchup.

Concord falls to 3-9 overall (2-7 MEC), while Shepherd improves to 2-9 (1-6 MEC).Â

Each team had opportunities throughout the first half, including a shot from Shepherd's Kyle Martin that forced senior goalkeeper
Mitchell Thompson to a diving save in the ninth minute of play. Meanwhile, senior defender
Alex Williams forced Shepherd goalkeeper Dmitre Snowdy into a save off of a corner kick with five minutes remaining in the first half.

Just eight minutes into the second half, Concord was reduced to ten men when senior midfielder
Eduardo Filho was shown a red card. Concord battled defensively for the remaining time in the second half, with Thompson being called into a save just once for the rest of regulation. Senior defender
Tyler Harris almost found the back of the net in the 84
th minute with a hard shot, but Snowdy was there to knock the ball away and preserve the scoreless match.  Â

The two teams headed into overtime scoreless, and Thompson was forced to make another save five minutes into the period to deny Martin once again.

The Rams found the winning goal when Myles Newhouse scored in the 105
th minute.Â

Shepherd outshot the Mountain Lions 18-9 overall, and 6-2 in shots on goal.  Shepherd also held a slim advantage in corner kicks 4-3.Â

Concord returns to action on October 15 when they host Wheeling Jesuit. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.Â
