Concord Loses at Charleston

Box Score SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Concord University women's soccer team fell to Mountain East Conference rival Charleston 3-0 at Trace Fork Soccer Complex Tuesday afternoon.

The loss makes Concord 4-3-2 and 2-2-2 in league play this season. Meanwhile, UC improves to 5-3-1 overall and 4-2 against MEC opponents.

Charleston used two first half goals to jump in front of Concord, netting  goals in the 22nd minute as well as the 27th minute. After the Golden Eagles took the two-goal edge, sophomore midfielder Margot Provencher put a shot on goal in attempt to cut into the deficit, but the shot was saved, allowing Charleston to take a 2-0 halftime lead.

After holding the Golden Eagles scoreless in the first 13 minutes of the second half, Charleston netted its third goal of the game at the 64:51 mark.

Junior forward Kari Simon and senior back Paris Wood both had a shot on goal for the Mountain Lions.

For the game, Charleston held edges in total shots (15-6), shots on goal (6-3) and corner kicks (5-3).

CU will return home to Anderson Field Saturday at 12:00 p.m. to play Notre Dame College.
