Concord and WJU Finish in 1-1 Tie

Box Score WHEELING, W.Va. – The Concord University women's soccer team finished in its second straight tie Saturday afternoon, 1-1, against Wheeling Jesuit.

After the draw, Concord is now 4-2-2 overall and 2-1-2 in the Mountain East Conference. Wheeling Jesuit, meanwhile, has a record of 0-4-2 overall and 0-3-2 in the conference play.

In the first half the Mountain Lions ripped off seven shots on goal, but Cardinals goalkeeper Holly Kraus turned all them away. Ten minutes into the second half, CU took a 1-0 lead on junior forward Chloe Barber's fourth goal of the season with sophomore forward Emily Cole tallying her fourth assist this season.

Concord hung onto the one-goal advantage throughout the second half, until Wheeling Jesuit knotted the game at 1-1 with less than two minutes remaining in regulation.

After two-minute segments of overtime where neither could net a goal, the game finished in a tie. In overtime, junior forward Kari Simon had two shots on goal and sophomore midfielder Sara van den Akker recorded a shot on goal, but CU was unable to break through.

Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Lacie Geisel made four saves for the Mountain Lions to move to 4-2-2 this season as the net minder for CU.

For the game, Cole notched a team-high five shots on goal while Simon and freshman midfielder Karri Albanese had three shots on goal each. The Mountain Lions held advantages in total shots (25-7) and shots on goal (17-5). Each team took two corners in the contest.

Concord will next head to MEC rival Charleston Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.
