MONTGOMERY, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team swept WVU Tech (25-18, 25-23, 25-23) in non-conference action Tuesday night at the Baisi Center.
The win moves Concord's record to 8-4. Last season, the Mountain Lion didn't win their eighth match until October 8.
CU got significant contributions from the freshman quintet of middle hitter
Alexis Elliott, outside hitter
Alex Hawks, middle hitter
Shea Hoffman, setter
Casey Mandeville and outside hitter
Lisette Roldan.
Mandeville produced a team-high 13 assists. Over her last two games, the Plain City, Ohio native has tallied 35 assists and 51 helpers over her last four contests.
The foursome of Elliott, Hawks, Hoffman and Roldan combined for 27 kills with Hawks leading the group with eight while Hoffman tallied seven and Elliott and Roldan both had six kills.
Senior setter
Nikki McMillan finished with 10 assists and four digs. Fellow senior setter
Whytni Willis registered four assists for the Maroon and Gray. Senior middle hitter and reigning Mountain East Conference Player of the Week
Sarah Jones collected with four kills.
Jones began the day ranked third among Division II players in kills with 155. Meanwhile, senior
Amanda Walker finished with six digs and three aces. Redshirt freshman libero
Nicci Hutzell recorded four digs in the win.
CU will begin MEC play this weekend when they travel to Fairmont State at 5 p.m. Friday before heading to Shepherd Saturday at 1 p.m. Â
