Concord Defeated By W.Va. Wesleyan

Box Score BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team fell to Mountain Eat Conference rival late Saturday night at Wood Street Field, 2-0.

Throughout the first 30 minutes of the game, the teams jockeyed for momentum before WVWC found the back of the net at the 30:45 mark.

Concord had a chance to tie the game in the 41st minute, but CU midfielder Alex Rhodes' shot on goal was blocked away by Bobcats goalkeeper Felipe Vial.

CU goalkeeper Mitchell Thompson made three second half saves to keep the deficit at one for the Mountain Lions, however, Wesleyan tacked on a second goal with just 90 seconds remaining in the match.

Along with Rhodes, junior midfielder Eduardo Filho, freshman midfielder Maximillian Simpson and  junior midfielder Joe Sweet all had one shot on goal for the Mountain Lions. Thompson finished with seven saves against West Virginia Wesleyan.

Both teams were able to register 16 total shots with the Bobcats holding the edge in shots on goal (9-4) and corner kicks (4-1).

Concord will host Shepherd Wednesday at Anderson in what will be the home opener for the Mountain Lions. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m.
