Concord Finishes 3-1 at D&E Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 ELKINS, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team finished off their impressive weekend with a 2-1 showing over its last three matches at the Davis and Elkins Tournament to finish 3-1 overall.  

Match 1: Loss, Seton Hill (Friday Night) – 3-0
Concord couldn't overcome a 25-19 loss in the first set and lost in three sets to SHU.

After Seton Hill won the first set, they went on to win the second and third sets by scores of 25-8 and 25-23.

Senior outside hitter Brytni Willis tallied eight kills to pace the Mountain Lions attack. Senior middle hitter Sarah Jones recorded five kills and added six digs. Senior setter Nikki McMillan had a team-high seven digs.

Match 2: Win, Shippensburg 3-2
The Mountain Lion rebounded nicely from their loss against Seton Hill to win a five-set marathon against the Raiders (25-14, 25-20, 18-25, 18-25, 15-8).

In the decisive fifth set, the Mountain Lions were able to finish on a 10-3 run after the fifth game was tied 5-5. Over the extended run, Jones along with Brytni Willis and senior setter Whytni Willis chipped in two kills each.

Willis spiked a season-high 20 kills to lead Concord to the win while Jones was one off of Willis' pace, recording 19 kills versus Shippensburg.

Sharing setting duties was McMillan and freshman Casey Mandeville. McMillan posted 25 assists while Mandeville turned in her best game as a Mountain Lion with 16 assists.

Senior libero Amanda Walker paced Concord with 20 digs while Jones registered her second double-double of the season by finishing with 13 digs. The Mountain Lions also got big contributions from freshman middle hitter Shea Hoffman and sophomore middle hitter Lauren Richardson coming up with six and three blocks, respectively.

Match 3: Win, Slippery Rock 3-0
The Mountain Lions assured themselves a winning record at the Davis and Elkins Tournament by putting away Slippery Rock in three sets in their final match (32-30, 25-17, 25-19.)

The first set marked the first time the Mountain Lions have had to go over the required 25 points to win a set this season.

After seizing control of the match in the long first set, Concord eased to eight and six point victories in the second and third games.

Once again, Jones and B. Willis paced the CU attack as Jones posted her second double-double in as many matches with 21 kills and 10 digs. Additionally, Jones hit a .487. B. Willis had 13 kills.

McMillan and Mandeville were more than impressive in their setting duties and they combined for 48 assists.

Hoffman was the third-leading attacker for CU as she finished with eight kills.

The foursome of freshman middle hitter Alexis Elliott, Richardson, freshman outside hitter Lisette Roldan and W.Willis each had two kills in the win.

At 7-4, this is the best 11-game start to a season for the Mountain Lions under Kate Southcott, who is in her sixth season at Concord.

Up next for the Mountain Lions will be a matchup with non-conference foe West Virginia Tech Tuesday at 7 p.m.
