CHARLESTON, W. Va. – Behind a pair of great pitching performances, the Concord University baseball team took a pair of games from the University of Charleston Sunday in Mountain East Conference play 3-2, 3-1. The Sunday doubleheader sweep gives CU the 3-1 series victory over the Golden Eagles.

With the wins, the Mountain Lions improve to 21-11 overall and 18-8 in MEC competition. Charleston drops to 11-16 overall and 7-16 in league play.

The day belonged to Concord starting pitchers sophomore Chris Kelly and freshman Zach Kelly. Chris Kelly took the mound in game one and proceeded to go all seven innings, scattering eight hits and two runs while striking out one Charleston batter to improve his team-best record 5-2 on the season. Zach Kelly followed that performance by throwing arguably his best game as a Mountain Lion by surrendering one run on five hits in seven innings for his fourth win of the season.

Offensively, Concord was led by sophomore designated hitter Joe Camp and sophomore shortstop Brad Sullivan. Camp was 5-for-7 with one run scored and one RBI while Sullivan combined to go 3-for-6 with a double and a RBI.

Concord broke open a 0-0 tie in the third inning of game one with a pair of runs. Senior catcher Brandon Costa and junior second baseman Jerrod Groves started the inning on a pair of one-out hits, with Groves' being a double, to put runners on second and third. Sophomore outfielder Andrew Seigel then proceeded to score both base runners on a bunt combined with a UC fielding error to give Concord the early 2-0 lead.

The Mountain Lions offense continued to roll in the fourth when Sullivan pushed Concord's lead to 3-0 via a double that plated Camp, who led off the inning with a single.

The three-run advantage was more than enough for Chris Kelly, who after allowing a pair of Charleston runs in the fifth inning, went on to record six consecutive outs in the sixth and seventh to close out the 3-2 Mountain Lion victory.

Groves, Camp, Sullivan and senior first baseman Joey Miller all produced one-hit games in the opener with Costa finishing 2-for-3 for his third multi-hit game of the season in addition his one run scored.

In what became another low-scoring contest in game two, Concord and Charleston traded runs in the fourth inning before the Mountain Lions came away with one-run innings in the fifth and seventh en route to a 3-1 triumph.

With game tied at 1-1, Camp shot a single to left field that allowed senior outfielder Bret Blevins, who reached base after being hit by a pitch before moving to second on a Miller walk, to score. Blevins was also responsible for Concord's run in the seventh when he scored on a sacrifice fly from junior third baseman Ryan Johnston.

Zach Kelly made sure Concord cruised to the two-run victory by allowing just one Charleston hit, a single in the seventh inning, and no runs in the game's final three innings.

As a team, the Mountain Lions registered 10 hits in game two with Camp's 4-for-4, one-RBI showing leading the way. Sullivan came away with a two-hit game of his own while Blevins, Seigel, Miller and sophomore outfielder Charles Goss all produced one-hit outings, respectively. Blevins also converted the game's only stolen base.

The Mountain Lions will look to extend its winning streak to five games with a doubleheader victory starting 1:00 p.m. April 12 at Wheeling Jesuit.
