Box Score 2 INSTITUTE, W. Va. – After losing Wednesday's opener at West Virginia State, 4-2, the Concord University baseball team rebounded to secure a doubleheader split by defeating the Yellow Jackets, 10-1, in game two at Cal Bailey Field in Institute, W. Va.
With the split Concord record moves to 26-12 overall and 23-9 in league play. West Virginia State goes to 21-13 overall and 17-11 in conference competition.
The Mountain Lions were led on the day by sophomore designated hitter
Joe Camp, who was 5-for-7 with a run scored and three RBI, and senior outfielder
Bret Blevins who batted 4-for-8 with two runs, two RBI and stole his team-leading 20
th base of the season.
West Virginia State scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to edge Concord 4-2 in the game one.
After being hit by a pitch in the first inning sophomore outfielder
Andrew Seigel advanced to third on a Blevins single and scored on an error by WVSU to put the Mountain Lion up 1-0.
The Yellow Jackets answered with their own run in the bottom of the third on an RBI single from Cody Smith to tie the game at 1-1.
CU jumped back on top in the fifth inning via a trio of singles from junior second baseman
Jerrod Groves, Seigel and Blevins. The base hit by Blevins plated Groves to give Concord a 2-1 edge.
West Virginia State scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth and retired the Mountain Lions in order in the seventh to secure a 4-2 win.
Blevins finished game one 2-for-3 with an RBI. Groves and Seigel both collected a hit and scored a run. The trio of Camp, sophomore outfielder Charlie Goss and junior third baseman

Kevin Mack (1-1) started the game for Concord, throwing 5.2 innings and allowing one earned run on six hits while striking out three hitters. Senior
Tim Leather recorded the final out for Concord.
CU scored ten unanswered runs including five in the second inning to win 10-1 in the nightcap.
The Mountain Lions began their run barrage in the second when Camp doubled home senior first baseman
Joey Miller, who had reached base on an error, to tie the game at 1-1. A single from sophomore shortstop
Brad Sullivan scored Johnston, who had singled earlier in the inning. The next batter, Goss, hit a double scoring Camp and Sullivan to extend the CU lead to 4-1. Goss would score later in the inning on CU's third double of the inning off the bat of Groves.
After reaching on an error for the second consecutive inning Miller came across the plate on a run-scoring single from Camp in the third to extend the Concord lead to 6-1.
The Mountain Lions offense would score a run in the fourth and explode for three more runs in the sixth en route to a 10-1 victory.
Camp led the offensive outburst in game two with a 4-for-4 performance with a run and three RBI. Blevins, Groves and Sullivan all tallied multi-hit games for the Mountain Lions. Blevins was 2-for-5 with two runs and a RBI. Groves was 2-for-3 with a run, an RBI and a pair of doubles while Sullivan was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

Chris Baker, who was making his first start of the season, pitched six innings, scattering five hits and allowing one earned run. Baker struck out three batters. Fellow senior
Dustin Nuckels recorded the final three outs for CU with one strikeout.
The Mountain Lions now shift their focus to their four-game series at West Virginia Wesleyan beginning 2:00 p.m. Friday in Buckhannon, W. Va.
